My complaint:

It happened around 7:30 a.m. today 29122021 Wednesday. I was on my way home from night shift work and decided to drop by. I bought a variety of meat with reduced prices. Upon using the self-service till, I asked a very kind oriental looking staff to help me amend the correct price when I accidentally scanned the original price. He also assisted me in using some of my Tesco club vouchers from the apps on my iPhone. When I paid the remaining amount due with my Tesco credit card, the machine did not print the receipt and it also did not give the option if I wanted a receipt or not. This was a normal occurrence as I knew for a fact that most of this machine don’t print out any receipt. As I was a regular customer who always get the correct amount and I have always trusted Tesco for many years, I did not bother to ask for a printed copy of the receipt. But on my way out towards the bus stop, my mind kept telling me that somehow I was overcharged by the till machine. I used the calculator on my iPhone and was shocked to find that I was really overcharged. I hurriedly went back to the store and told them what happened. This time I was assisted by a younger looking man with curly black hair and very fair skin with a narrow high bridged nose. At the very first second, I could tell that he was not happy to help by the look on his face and the tone of his voice. He insisted me to open up my phone and show him my Tesco account with the actual amount I paid and the actual time it occurred so that he could retrieve the transactions and be able to print the receipt. Then he calculated the total amount charged in a very complicated way which I did not agree. I said I wanted to pay the actual amount that I needed to pay. I think for him to cut the matter short, he was refunding me GBP12 and made me believed that I was gaining a bit more money than if I insisted on my own calculation. He started to raise his voice when I disagreed again. He was saying that he was technically paying me more than I supposed to get. But that was making Tesco lost money no matter how small and that was not right due to his incompetence and arrogance. Finally I agreed to his idea of refunding me more than I should get and paid what he wanted as I was feeling tired and go home. Before I left, in front of all the staff and other customers, he rudely told me that next time I should find somewhere else to shop because they don’t need me there as I wasted 30 minutes of his time with the mess I have done by objecting to his explanations. This time I left feeling totally humiliated.

This rude young man with curly black hair and white face was very familiar to me being a regular customer. He had served me at the kiosk counter a few times whenever I bought lottery tickets and claiming my winnings if I have been lucky. He may not remember me as I was only one of the many customers they have. I heard him chatting on his phone in either Spanish or Portuguese, or maybe Italian. One more thing, I saw him working at Morrison Supermarket in Acton, London W3. I don’t think he would remember the fact that I got his attention at that time when I told him that I was sure he was the same guy who also work at Tesco Express in Hammersmith London. He just laughed as I was laughing too. In this regard, working with two competing supermarkets is definitely a conflict of interest. Is he legally allowed to do that?

Suggested solution:

He should be trained on how to deal properly with customer no matter that customer is right or wrong.

He should be questioned, by virtue of conflict of interest, if he is still working with Morrison Supermarket, a rival company of Tesco.

Let me know the result of my complaint.
