My complaint:

Hello

I would like to complain about the way I was treated at the above store when I went to purchase items this morning. I went to complete my purchase at the self check out at approximately 07:15am. The upon exiting the store I was called back by a staff member when I asked what was wrong she stated that my purchase hadn’t gone through.

I returned to the machine to complete (via contactless) as the purchase was only valuing £8.27. This time I was supervised by a white lady with brown hair (which was already manning thewho seemed to be of English decent and an Asian man. So I swiped contactless again and as I was about to leave the Asian man stated. Look you need to enter your pin. Pay attention! Then once I completed my purchase and proceeded to leave the store he proceeded to make a derogotary comment about me to the other server to which she started to laugh. Which is highly inappropriate and unprofessional and embarrassing for me.

The card issue was an honest mistake and I don’t go shopping to be ridiculed or embarrassed by anybody. I visit Tesco’s regularly and this type of behaviour is an issue at this store. Hence why I now normally use spring hill.

The Aston store is located in an inner city area so there is a general undercurrent and rude tone when being dealt with by some of the staff in the store. Especially when they are dealing with people of Afro Caribbean decent.

This is not my first bad experience at this store, this is why even though this is my local store I choose to drive further on to spring hill to complete my weekly shop which averages £60-80 weekly I am also a Tesco clubcard holder since 2015.

This is not about getting a refund, but attitudes of some staff members at this store need to change. They need to be more aware of how there actions affect others, and the tone they use when they are dealing with people. As we are customers not children. Considering there are a mixed demographic of people in the workforce I wouldn’t expect to experience such an act of prejudice as I would feel that they would be more culturally aware, and I know part of the reason why the behaviour of this type is wholly acceptable at this store is because manly due to the demographic of people that visit the store, they do not openly complain about things.

I hope my feedback will aid a change in the attitudes of staff at this store and futher training for them.

I have attached my receipt for reference purposes. As I did not look at the name badges of the staff involved. As I decided it was better not to respond to them at the time.

Many thanks

Suggested solution:

Train staff accordingly and take appropriate action
