My complaint:
This afternoon (approx 3pm) I purchased Lamb Leg Steaks (300g) ap approx £5, with a use by date of the 22nd June 2022.
On cooking a dinner for my family, I noticed an extremely strong smell on opening the packaging to allow the meat to stand for 10mins as advised. However I proceeded with the rest of the dinner and later pan fried the lamb steaks. Now the smell became even stronger but I continued to ensure the meat was cooked before attempting any taste.
I cut a very small piece of the meat and on tasting it, yes it was rancid and I had to spit it out and have a drink. My wife just smelt the meat up close and said that has to go.
So we were left with no dinner and I had to order a takeaway, However not before I lit a number of fragranced candles in the house to try a kill the smell, wash down and disinfect all areas, shower and change etc.
Id hate to think if anyone had swallowed any of this meat and I can tell you know some 5hrs on, the smell is still there.
I have kept all packaging and the meat in sealed bags and I am considering reporting the matter to Birmingham City Council – Environmental Health.
Suggested solution:
First of all you need to remove that store and maybe others this meat for further inspection.
What compensation you offer to me is a matter for your consideration in what is a very serious matter.
