My complaint:

I had sent a buyer the package with a ‘Japanese Reshiram Zekrom GX – Dream League’ in pristine condition, no flaws. I had put it in a sleeve top loader, wrapped it bubble wrap, put cardboard on both sides to sandwich the bubble wrapped card putting a piece of tape on each edge tying some cord around that attaching a ‘Thank you!’ tag. The buyer received the package, had no issues, the very next day after a full 24hrs had passed he said he wanted to file a return as the item Wasn’t as described as it had a print mark. The item had no print mark whatsoever. When I messaged Mercari back a rebuttal I said, ‘the picture he has is not my card, please compare my photos with the ones he’s taken,’ I even told them where to look to make the comparisons. A couple days later, I got a notification that his request was approved. I was LIVID! I messaged the support team back and forth after a lot of going no where, I basically had to wait everything out. He had until July 6th to ship it out. He waited until the night of JULY 5TH and when I received the package it was wrapped with nearly as much care! My card wasn’t in the original top loader (it was in a side loader?) he put THAT in between the 2 cardboard pieces and taped each edge before doing a hodgepodge job of wrapping bubble wrap around that and taping it shut. He also couldn’t be bothered to get his own package as he reused the one I had sent to him and just used a bunch of tape to reseal the top he had sliced open. When I finally looked at the card that was sent back, I didn’t realize I could be any more furious than I already was…but I was wrong. The card he sent was in PERFECT CONDITION!!!! There were no print lines. I looked it, my coworker looked at it, I even went got a magnifying glass! THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE PRINT LINE!!!! Had Mercari done it’s job to begin with, I would not be caught in the middle of what you would call a FRAUDULENT return. Had they actually investigated when he first wanted to return it, there would’ve been no return, but their response was it fell within the return guidelines of ‘item not as described’ so the return was approved. Then they still had some type of ability to do something, when I addressed support, before the item was shipped out, but after the return was approved. Still, I was told to file a claim once I had the card in hand. I had done EVERYTHING I was supposed to do up to this point continued to do so even when I filed a complaint about the return. Mercari then denied my dispute of the return AGAIN, stating pretty much well, the buyer got the item as described and you got the item just as you sent it to the buyer, so we’re denying your claim. EXCUSE YOU!!!! You approved his cause it wasn’t as described and now you deny me because it was as described? Well which one is it because it cannot be both. This now just means that I’m out the money he paid time it took to sell it go through the whole process of selling it then dealing with the mess of the return that should never have happened. On top of all that, I gave him a DISCOUNT on the card! I had listed the card at $500 before lowering it to $400. He offered $300 and I accepted even though that is $100 dollars less than what I listed it at technically $200 less than what I had originally listed and wanted to begin with. I bend over backwards for my buyers, my reviews prove it his don’t. So why am I the one who has to pay for a double standard that Mercari has and a FRAUDULENT buyer that Mercari supports. Does that mean Mercari supports FRAUD and OTHER ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES? At this point, that’s what it looks like if the one doing wrong gets rewarded gets off scott free while the honest one gets booted gets nothing but a too darn bad about that, but there’s nothing that can be done, which translates to, gee, yea, we really don’t wanna go to the effort/we don’t believe you so we’re sticking with our corrupt policies. How is Mercari allowed to get away with this, Can this be resolved? As clearly what is going on is DEFINITELY wrong and AGAINST THE LAW.

Suggested solution:

If the buyer wants his money back, then they deal with the buyer. I should not have to give up the money I earned because of a fraudulent claim. I just want to be able to keep the money I earned. If that happens, I'll be satisfied as just having the card back not the money when very clearly the buyer LIED about it being damaged is not my fault, and the return should never have been authorized to begin with.
