We need your help filling in the gaps

We recently completed a review of all your accounts with us. We noticed a large payment from and funds going to and from Transferwise

We now need some further information from you regarding this activity. This is so we can check the activity is in accordance with our Kiwibank General Terms and Conditions, and to meet our legal obligations to understand our customers’ source of funds, and the nature and purpose of their accounts held with us.

What we need from you

To help us understand your banking relationship with us, please provide the following information:

A detailed explanation of the reason for the activity outlined above – the reason for the payment from and where the funds are going to via Transferwise
Relevant documents that support your explanation.

Please email this information to us at aml@kiwibank.co.nz by 23 August 2023. When you email us, please include the following reference number in the subject line: CS4046943

If you’re unable to provide this information by email, please visit a Kiwibank branch with these details by 23 August 2023, and our branch staff will assist in getting this documentation to us.

Other things to know

If you choose not to provide the information requested above, or the information provided is not sufficient, we may need to review our banking relationship with you which could lead to freezing or closing your accounts with us. You can find more information about this in section 7 of our General Terms and Conditions.

Please note we won’t be reviewing any correspondence until the due date mentioned above.

Thank you for your secure mail. We do understand that these questions can feel a little intrusive, but please understand that these policies are designed to protect our customers. Due to legislative and policy obligations Kiwibank is required to collect documentation to understand the origins of the payments received and where the payments are going to.

Can you please supply the following:

Evidence of the asset you have sold – screen shots of conversations or the ad for the item
A statement from Transferwise showing the destination of the funds

Dear Thomas,

We’re closing your Kiwibank accounts

Thank you for your efforts in providing information to support your account activity. However, after careful consideration, we’ve decided we can no longer provide banking services to you.

Your Kiwibank account(s) will be closed on 13 September 2023. This will end your banking relationship with us, including any future services. If you have an ‘Authority to Operate’ on any other accounts that you’re not the owner of, this will also be removed.

What you need to do

Please withdraw all the money from your Kiwibank account(s) and make other banking arrangements before 13 September 2023. If you have an ‘Authority to Operate’ please let the account holder know this will be removed.

Other things to know

If any of your Kiwibank accounts are in credit at the time of closing, we’ll electronically transfer the funds to another New Zealand bank account as specified by you. If an alternative account number isn’t provided before 13 September 2023. we may place the funds into a holding account until you provide us with this information. You can give us your new bank account details by calling 0800 11 33 55 (we’re available Monday to Thursday 7am – 9pm, Friday 7am – 8pm and on weekends 8am – 4.30pm) or visit your nearest Kiwibank branch.

If any of your accounts have outstanding debt, including any closing fees, you will remain liable for this debt and may be referred to a debt collection agency. Any collection costs will be added to the total outstanding amount you owe.

We don’t take this decision lightly, however we can close your account without providing a reason, by giving you at least 14 days’ notice. Please refer to section 7 of our General Terms and Conditions for more details.
