My complaint:

I contacted Kia Dealership at the address listed back in 2021 about an issue for a safety recall about the engine compartment issue. I am concerned that the engine compartment could catch fire if not repaired. I also documented on 2172022 who I talked to and was informed to take the vehicle to be diagnosed. My car’s check engine light came on and I got the diagnostic test done at Vega Auto on Old Shadeland Ave. in indianapolis. I got a safety recall campaign from their diagnostic for an engine control unit (ECU) logic improvement (SC176). It states: This bulletin provides the procedure to upgrade the Catalyst Overheating Protection (COP) logic in the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and, if necessary, replace the Catalytic Converter on some 2012-2016 MY soul (AMPS) vehicles, produced from July 8, 2011, through August 11, 2016. Depending on the extent of damage, the short block assembly may also need to be replaced. The affected vehicles may exhibit catalyst system efficiency deterioration or a malfunction indicator lamp illumination with an active history or pending DTC PO420 (Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1). Under certain conditions, the catalytic converter may become damaged due to overheating caused by an excessive increase of exhaust gas temperatures. If the catalytic converter is damaged, substrate particles can enter the engine combustion chamber and cause abnormal engine combustion. Continuous abnormal engine combustion can result in damage to one of more of the engine’s pistons which can cause piston rod breakage, potentially puncturing the engine block, allowing engine oil to escape. Engine oil that contacts a hot exhaust surface may result in a fire. Before conducting the procedure, verify the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.

I was instructed to take the vehicle to be diagnosed at the kia dealership, which would cost me more than what I can afford, and I don’t have a lot of time to get a diagnostic done if something should happen Why would I receive a safety recall notice from an auto repair shop diagnostic if there was no safety recall?

Suggested solution:

Fix the Problem. Service the vehicle recall issue free of charge, no charge for diagnostic or repair of the car. The recall BEGAN on April 17, 2019, and Kia said the recall ended in 2019.
