SirMadam,
When I came to Manhattan, Kansas (MHK) airport I was told that my connecting flight from London to Warsaw (on British Airways) was canceled. This was one hour before my departure to Europe. I had to make an instant decision whether to fly anyway and try to arrange another flight in London or fly two days later (the possibility suggested by the airport agent). Due to the Covid-19 limited test expiration time and due to my private obligations that did not allow me any flexibility I decided to fly to London, where I was forced to pick my luggage, as the flight by British Airways was cancelled.

I cannot describe the level of my anxiety caused by this predicament. I was lucky that a British Airways customer agent booked a flight on a Polish Airline LOT that took me to Warsaw. Unfortunately, I had to pay for this flight! Since my original itinerary was also changed (the connecting flight from Helsinki to Gdansk was canceled) I had to buy a plane ticket from Warsaw to Gdansk, my original destination. See below.

On the way back to the USA I had the same situation (flight from Gdansk to London canceled; also on British Airways) and that forced me to buy an additional plane ticket from Gdansk to Warsaw. So, even though I used my frequent miles for this trip I still had to purchase another ticket, an extra and unexpected expense for me. See below.

The first ticket costed me 555.25 zloty ($152.17) and the second ticket costed me 472.92 zloty ($121.58); the conversation from zloty to American dollars is from my credit card statement.
Considering an enormous stress and anxiety these cancellations caused me I’m requesting not only to be reimbursed for the cost of the two extra tickets, but also to be compensated for the stress inflicted on me. According to EU regulations, I am entitled to $700 cash for each cancelled flight (see below). Thus, I expect from British Airways reimbursement of 1,673.75. American Airlines denied my request for reimbursement, as they claim that British Airways is responsible for this. They told me that they redirected my claim to British Airways. Unfortunately no response so far. I also send the request to British Airways many weeks ago… NO RESPONSE. I hope you will consider my request.

Best regards,
Marzenna Jankowiak
