My complaint:

To start, I entered the store, grabbed a cart and a towel to sanitize my cart. On the way in the door, by the sanitizing station was an empty black bin that I thought was for trash. I finished sanitizing my cart and disposed of the towel. Immediately upon entering, I saw a sale rack by the door with bottles of wine in front of the service desk advertised at 50% off. I picked up the bottle but could not find a price. I asked the store clerk standing closet to me if she knew the price. She rolled her eyes, shrugged and said I don’t know sarcastically. Rather than greet me, or say sure, give me a minute, I will check, she turned to ignore me. Another clerk standing next to her said here – I’ll check for you, which he did and was very courteous in doing so. I admonished the girl who rolled her eyes and said the least you could have done is check rather than say I don’t know and turn away from me. She remarked Well – you threw your garbage somewhere it didn’t belong – there’s a garbage can right there and pointed in another direction. I started to explain that I had no idea the black empty bin was not for garbage (given it’s location by the sanitizer), but gave up when she once again rolled her eyes and turned away. I asked for her name, which she gave me (Amanda) and I did tell her I was reporting her attitude to management. She shrugged again. I’m 66 years old and this is the first ever store complaint I have ever filed. I have shopped at Jewel’s all of my life and have always had very helpful employees. This girl was disrespectful. On top of that, she had told a bagger go get that garbage and then proceeded to say thank you precious to a coworker, which seemed inappropriate to me also. For a few minutes I started to shop, but as I thought about her demeanor, I did ask for a manager. The store assistant manager Ed did meet me and was very apologetic to me and said an associate should never roll their eyes at a customer or cause the customer any public embarrassment. He promised to speak with her, but I want to make sure that happens. I’m hoping she just had a bad day, but I’m more concerned if she thinks this attitude is appropriate when dealing with the public. She embarrassed me, made her coworkers uncomfortable, and really upset me with her attitude. I did compliment the fine young man that helped me, and I also apologized to the girl she called precious for having to retrieve my towel at Amanda’s direction, and throw it in the right container. I do, however, think Amanda needs some education and training so this does not happen in the future.

Suggested solution:

Talk with the employee and provide education and training so she can better serve the general public.
