My complaint:

I used HR Block’s new program online to file my 2020 Tax Return and put in the information the exact way that I have done for the past 3 years and the IRS rejected my return. They said that I check off a box that indicated that some of my investments or business is at risk. I decided to take a look at it myself to see why they rejected it. There was a box checked off for that but it has never been checked off and I did my return the same as I always have. Then the program wouldn’t allow me to fix it and I couldn’t refile it on my own without help. So then I had to pay a tax pro to review it for me and sure enough he unchecked that box and made a few adjustments. I already paid them $117.25 for the initial filing which I thought was ridiculous. Then on top of that I paid them $109.99 for the Tax Pro to simply do what I was trying to do from the start. On top of that I couldn’t afford the fees so I had to use the refund transfer which has a $39 refund transfer fee. It is frustrating that I wasn’t able to fix my own return because their program wouldn’t allow me to. I feel duped into paying more money just to get something fixed that shouldn’t have even been a problem in the first place.

Suggested solution:

HR Block should resolve this complaint by making things right. I should have been able to file my return for the initial $117.25. Even though I feel that is still high I understand there is a lot of work that goes in to what they do. I just want to be reimbursed for what was unnecessary to begin with. I originally paid my fees out of pocket and I wouldn't have incurred the other fees. They should reimburse me the $148.99 that I should not have had to pay.
