My complaint:

Both my mother and I have been long time patrons of Hannafords supermarket even back to the Victory days. However due to the treatment that was given to my mother and myself by an employee and a supervisor/manager we will NEVER set foot in another Hannaford. My mother is recently in the process of recovering from open heart surgery in which she suffered from multiple complications. We had gone to Hannaford yesterday to pick a few things. With alot of effort my mother was able to enter the establishment and we were greeted by an employee that was wonderful, she immediately assisted us to a mechanical cart. We then proceeded to shop and check out. As we were exiting, a employee from the other side of the store began yelling HEY HEY MA’AM YOU CAN’T TAKE THAT OUTSIDE!!!!!!!. When the employee came over to us she was curt and rude. My mother explained to her that she physically was not able to walk out to the car and certainly not with all the items we purchased. I attempted to explain the situation to the employee who was just loud and belligerent. I tried to tell her that I had been her multiple times before and after she gets back into the car I always drive it back in to the building. The employee then told us that she didn’t want us driving it down 117. I brought my car up to the front and a nice young lady assisted us to put our items in the car. Two other employees came out to us and apologized for how we were treated. I immediately called the state regarding the rights of a disabled individual, they asked alot of questions and asked for the store ID number so I needed to go back in the store to ask for it. I found the employee who was so rude who I believe is a manager and after my third attempt she finally gave me the number. She had asked the supervisor to come down and I was trying to explain the situation to him he was just as rude. I told him that I was reporting the incident and his response was It Won’t Matter Any Way, they won’t do anything. His snide remark told me that clearly if the person in charge acts this way how can I expect the employee to be any different. Thank you for your time in this matter, this whole situation could of been handled differently instead it was a humiliating.

Suggested solution:

Improve staff education on how to treat the customer
