Green Dot Bank complaint: Systematic Denial of Claims

My complaint:

My account was compromised when my Green Dot Card was stolen. Three ATM withdrawals and one fuel charge at a local store were made on the same day totaling almost 800.00. Green Dot denied my claim in less than 12 hours. They repeatedly tell you to call but since my card was necessarily cancelled because of theft, every time i try and call them they ask me to enter my account number, then tell me it’s an invalid account number and disconnect me. I have asked in an e-mail if they could provide me with a number to speak with a supervisor or their legal department they simply give me the same number they continually disconnect me from as an invalid account. This to me amounts to a denial of service. I asked in an e-mail what form do i need to fill out to arbitrate the claim. Again, another e-mail stating the claim can best be handled by calling them. This company needs to be heavily fined. It is my belief from reading other complaints that they summarily deny it’s members complaints as having no merit automatically and they intentionally frustrate ones efforts to resolve their valid complaints. I would urge every Green Dot Cardholder to complain to the Attorney General of their home state should they be treated like i have. An investigation into their business practices should be conducted to see if they are violating any banking laws and a central clearinghouse (like this one) be set up so the progress of customer complaints can be tracked to their resolution and civil suits can be started if necessary so they will stop what i believe to be the case– automatic denial of claims for all who file complaints. I wonder how many millions of dollars they made off of people who gave up in frustration, never having resolved their claim at all. This company needs to be audited by the feds. Thank you in advance for this platform. I will do my part to pay it forward in hope that others may be helped and Green Dot be held accountable for their shameful tactics in dealing with it’s customers.

Suggested solution:

Reimburse me for the stolen funds. That's why banks are insured through the FDIC.
