My complaint:

I was in store 02891 4749 Hwy 58, Chattanooga Tn 37416 for a refund. And I can honestly say, without exaggeration or embellishment that this type of encounter was the first in my life. And the worst by far. I was told by another associate that the store has cameras and I hope those cams have audio. I would like the footage to be reviewed if possible.I told the cashier (black male, maybe late 20’s, in a motorized wheelchair) that I needed a refund. I could tell by his demeanor  and the way he told me to just go look when I told him that I believed they had some more of those pants on the shelf, that he wasn’t thrilled to have to do the refund. He didnt know how to do it and said he would have to call the manager lady. He seemed more upset when the manager showed him how and asked her why no one had shown him. He honestly looked pissed the entire time. I didnt say anything. Just waited for the refund. The receipt prints, he doesnt pull it from the register, does not look up, just gruffly sayssign that. I had had enough of his attitude. I say excuse me, can you say please or something? He says you want me to say please?  I tell him or you could at least make it sound more like a request and not an order. He starts cursing me. I toss the receipt on the counter and start cursing. He says how he isnt giving me shit and how he doesnt need this fucking job. The manager (black female. maybe 30’s. glasses) comes up there. He leaves the store and appears to have quit. She speaks to the customers that witnessed it all and they all agreed that he was just rude and unprofessional for no apparent reason. I apologize to them and her for my part in the matter. She needs his code to complete the transaction. He was still outside. He comes back in, on the phone and as he passes me calls me a pussy ass boy. I asked her if she just heard that. She was right there but didn’t answer. He goes to the back out of sight. I get the store number but tell her I haven’t decided if I want to call in a complaint. She tells me I’m not the first person he has treated like that but that it’s the manager’s job to do something about it. And then chalks it up to him being young (I’m 45) and that kids are just rude these days. I realize that if I don’t say something he will be treating someone else like that the very next day. The manager, who may have just been more of a lead associate, gives me her manager’s name. I believe it is Alicia. I plan to speak to her directly also. I really can’t believe this even happened. Over nothing! He could have simply apologized in the beginning and I would have said no sweat. And it ended there. But this man should not be allowed to treat people the way he does.  I want someone to contact me about this matter. And I want something done about it.
Update: It has been a little over a week and there seems to be no way to talk to a live person for Family Dollar. Customers can’t do anything more than leave  an online survey. In that survey I requested someone contact me and no one has. I’ve called the store where the incident took place for days now,  to speak with the store manager, and no one ever picks up the phone. No surprise there.

Suggested solution:

He should be fired. And other employees including the manager need training on how to treat customers, what to do when a problem arises, and follow up to resolve it. The stores headquarters need to do more than simply make a survey available for customer complaints and actually pretend like they give a damn.
