My complaint:

I was a very hard working, and loyal employee at this store. I was going into debt working there though because pay was 9.50 hourly, but the state takes half of that for taxes… then I wasnt getting enough hours to even cover my gas to and from work… not to mention the insurance! I was told that I could go into training to become the freight manager because it was a new, combination store that we were in charge of setting up and stocking.

Once the store got moved, and most shelving was set up, they insisted we open the store, even with it being a safety hazard (boxes still all over the floor to be stocked, boxes of shelves laying around and just an all around dangerous situation) then they demanded we expand hours to match those of the dollar general next door… they want us to compete for business, and be open the same hours, but don’t want to pay accordingly. DG hires on to start at 14$ an hour. Almost 5 dollars more an hour! Anyways, once the store was moved, and opened, I was informed that I could not go into training for that position, because they did away with it.

For context, I am disabled. I have chiari malformation, epilepsy, dyslexia with numbers and abdominal adhesions. I have several issues, which I was able to work around. I wasn’t a cashier, I unloaded the trucks, organized the back room, kept merchandise separated, stocked and cleaned. I was basically a float, on call… came in whenever a truck was scheduled.

Nicci (nicole Turner) insisted that we didn’t need that position, and refused to promote internally, which is one of their biggest claims. I was trying to become the freight manager, in hopes of possibly going to the warehouse or something higher eventually, without operating the front end of the store. She said I could only become an assisstant manager, so I could open or close the store. When I turned that offer down, I was punished by having my hours severely cut back. She’s gone as far as to belittle me in the back room when nobody was around to witness it. I’m tired of the discrimination. I ended up walking out that night. Btw… I had already put my 2 weeks notice in, but had continued to work well over a month past that, just to help my store manager. Now I’ve been accused of just leaving without notice, when in fact, I did give notice a month and a half before I quit! She was extremely rude to me simply because I’m disabled, and still worked hard. I knew my job and I did it well. Nicci is only setting the store up to fail by insisting the manager fire all her good employees.

She could give me a plaque, and a 1$ chocolate bar as a thanks, instead of promoting internally or giving a well deserved raise… simply so I could afford to work there. My bf was basically paying for me to be there every day. They want all this work done, but they do not want to pay for it, or treat employees with any sort of decency!

Suggested solution:

Nicci needs retrained on how to talk to those with disabilities, and not treat them like trash. Personally, I don't think she's a good fit for her position with the way she interacts with people in general
