My complaint:

After performing a Windows update, my computer Dell XPS with Windows 10 home office is asking me for Bitlocker code; I called technical service this morning and spent 2 hours on the phone and tried all suggestions:

On the first call, they informed me that something went terribly wrong on the update as Windows 10 home edition does not have Bitlocker. They told me to take the computer to an IT specialist to save the data and perform a fresh install. I later learn from Dell that without the code, it is impossible to extract the data. No one can, so if no code, all my data is lost…

On my second call with your customer service, I was informed that Dell should have my Bitlocker code, I called Dell again, and they said that they never have access to these codes for security reasons.

Now I am directly affected by problem created by updating my Windows System, following the normal process. What bothers me the most is that Microsoft is not taking any responsibility. As a minimum compensation, I have asked to get an upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and Office package licenses completely free of charge. I had Microsoft Office on my computer, which I purchase via my old employer, and don’t have the codes, so I will also lose this as well. Technical service told me to write this complaint.

As you can understand as a consumer, this one of the worst situations I have been in as I will losses all my data, including pictures and memories that I will never be able to recover. I can see when googling this problem is somehow common on Windows 10 home edition and has affected other users

Suggested solution:
