My complaint:

Upon arrival of my holiday (Friday 2nd July) I was allocated a caravan on the Morningside number 31. The caravan was in my opinion absolutely not in a fit state for guests and had several health safety issues. I will list them below:
1. All windows were covered in bird faeces and dirtdust so you could not see out of any. This was likely a result of the trees around the caravan not being trimmed back and the branches were actually hanging over the roof.
2. The units above the fire had large cracks and the veneer was peeling to a state where the door was almost hanging off.
3. The fire itself was not in working condition (likely as this seemed to be the wrong fitment) This seemed to be resolved with two electric heaters being placed in front of it. This gave us a choice of either watching the television or being cold!
4. The cooker had not been cleaned and was thick in greasedirt, all of the knobs were loose or not attached. If we wanted to use the oven we had to use plyers to turn the metal stick that the knob should be on, obviously making cooking an issue!
5. Kitchen cupboards had the same veneer issue as the ones over the fire where they were all peeling and the drawers in the bedroom had the same issue.
6. The double mattress in the main bedroom had no padding so it was just exposed springs so we used the spare quilts as some sort of padding.
7. The seal around the shower door had come off and was covered in green mould.
8. The toilet seat in one of the bathrooms was broken.
9. The tap and the sink in the kitchen did not work so you had to turn it to the cold setting to get hot and to the hot to get cold, obviously a plumbing issue!
10. On the third night the smoke alarm in the lounge started to beep
11. All curtains throughout the caravan were mouldy and smelt damp
12. The ceiling in the lounge was thick with cobwebs, obviously has not been cleaned for a very long time.
13. Broken glass had been left in a kitchen cupboard next to the sink, again a result of poor housekeeping.
14. the bedroom window would not close completely causing a draft.

Suggested solution:

After seeing the caravan I did go straight to the reception to report all issues and showed the staff member photos. I was advised on the same day somebody would come out to replace the toilet seat, which they did. In regards to the fire alarm, again reported straight away, we were handed 2 AAA batteries with no further involvement. Firstly the smoke alarm does not take this kind of battery and secondly I am not on holiday to maintain a caravan that I have paid to stay in.
The receptionist could only offer a verbal apology, she did say it should not be left in that state to which I replied that the caravan had obviously been left that way for a very long time and was not fit for guests to stay in. As you can imagine we have waited a long time to have a holiday with friends and after staying as long as we could the issues just got the better of us all and we decided to leave early as alternative accommodation was not offered to us.
