My complaint:

I own a 2011 Kia Sorento. I have complied with getting all my recall issues fixed, or so I thought at the Kia Dealers.
On July 15, 2022 my son was driving the car to work, and all of a sudden a loud pop, smoke coming out of the engine compartment, then flames. Had it towed to a mechanic who told me the bearing in the engine seized up and blew the engine. That was was the 2021 recall was for, they wanted to update software that would give you a hint that the rod connector bearing was going out, and the recall was to help avoid this problem. I have read several things on the internet about Kia replacing these engines in the Sorento’s.
After the mechanic told me this I had the car towed to Oakes Kia in North Kansas City, MO. they told me they had to do an assessment and would let me know (charged $150.00) I said ok. They did the assessment and sent it to Kia where Kia told them it would not cover the engine. As a 70 year old woman, I feel Kia has taken advantage of the opportunity to refuse to fix what their recall was about.
I can’t complain about this SUV it has been one of the BEST cars I have owned. No major problems until now. No rust on this car, no dings, no dents, I have taken very good care of this car and have performed all the required maintenance when due.ow it’s going to cost me over $5,800 to replace the engine.

Suggested solution:

They should stick to their word about the recall and replace the engine. They won't be out anything. They knew these rod connector bearings were bad otherwise they wouldn't have sent out the recall.
