My complaint:

On May 16, 2022, my 24 year old daughter suffered a massive heart attack, causing extensive damage to her heart. We are shattered.

When I went to the CVS Pharmacy on 11200 Reisterstown Road, in Owings Mills Maryland, on June 7, 2022, I had a disturbing experience.

When I questioned the cashier about the price of my daughter’s refilled heart and blood medications, the pharmacist came to see me. He told me that I was rude and offensive. I slid my credit card in to pay for the bagged heart prescriptions. As I went to take the prescriptions, the pharmacist grabbed them and would not let me have them. He then told me I had to describe each prescription and what it did. He had the bags at this point. My daughter takes 9 medications and he was withholding 4 of them. I told him that they were refills and explained her blood disease and massive heart attack in front of a now growing line of people. I began to sob and had to explain her condition now in front of a crowd. He still refused to hand over her medications. My daughter was sitting in the car with a defibrillator vest on for nearly an hour while the pharmacist continued to stare me down and call me rude and offensive.

I called my daughter’s cardiologist and he attempted to speak with the pharmacist. Eventually, the pharmacist let the cashier hand me three medications but he withheld the Eliquis, despite a call or two from my daughter’s cardiologist. This is unacceptable and dangerous.

We have been through hell and have no time to deal with an unethical and cruel pharmacist. He refused to provide his name.

I have had to transfer my very very sick daughter’s medications to another pharmacy.

This is unacceptable and appalling. It is my hope that this is addressed and another heart broken family does not have medication withheld or endure this abusive, negligent, and potentially dangerous behavior.

Suggested solution:

I expect a response and a through investigation.
