My complaint:

I am a teacher in a small school. We are using a hybrid mode to deal with the pandemic, along with giving families the option to learn from home full time or come to school full time. Last spring we were using Google Meet but this year we are using Zoom as we like it better and it has more options that we can use. The problem is that we have some deaf and hard of hearing students who need closed captioning. I’m shocked and surprised that Zoom has no closed captioning option — other than contracting with an outside company to type in the words. Google Meet has closed captioning.

Suggested solution:

My understanding is that closed captioning is currently being field tested at Zoom. If this is the case, we would like to be a part of that testing. We would rather not run some classes in Zoom and some in Google Meet -- or switch to Google Meet completely. This is an ADA issue as these students depend on the closed captioning to follow what is happening in class. They are at a huge disadvantage without it. We are working to try to find work arounds but I feel that we shouldn't have to do this.
