My complaint:

Our flight 1184 to Fort Meyers, Florida on October 18, was redirected to Orlando, Florida because of an airstrip issue at Fort Meyers airport. WestJet emailed us food and accommodation vouchers, and then told us we probably would not find available accommodation. We were then told a bus would arrive at the Orlando airport at 5:15 PM and leave at 5:30 PM for Fort Meyers. In the meantime we used $30 of the $120 food vouchers emailed to us earlier to have something to eat. After eating we went to the bus arrival point at 5:15 PM, and were told at 6:15 PM that the bus would not be arriving. At this point we were uncertain how and when we would get to Fort Meyers. A couple from Guelph, Ontario asked us if we would like to share a van with them, their daughter and granddaughter to Fort Meyers. We said yes to Gerry, Sally, Kelly and baby Mia. The van was rented from Hertz for 487 US dollars. We paid Gerry 200 US dollars for our share. In Fort Meyers we were picked up by family from Naples (the second trip from Naples). Seeing we only used $30 of the $120 food vouchers and none of the accommodation voucher we feel justified in expecting at least 200 US dollars in compensation. It was an incredibly hectic day for two people in their mid eighties.

Suggested solution:

A minimum of 200 US dollars compensation.
