My complaint:
I rented a mini Excavator this morning. The associate who helped me said the one I wanted had broken down recently and she had to make sure that it was repaired and working and if it wasn’t she would rent something else to me. An associate responded to her and said it was repaired and working fine and good to go. My contractor got to my ranch 35 miles away and couldn’t even get it off of the trailer because it would not start and diesel and gas were spewing all over my land. We made the 35 mile trip back to home depot for a replacement rental. This was costing me more money the more time that passed without working equipment because I had a contractor who paused an existing job he is working on to do this one for me today and I am paying hourly for him to not be able to work because of home depots mistake. They would not let my contractor leave with the new equipment until the paperwork was complete but they refunded my original 500 deposit to my debit card and then tried to charge another 500 deposit for the new rental which was declined by my bank since it takes 2 business days for the refund to come back to my bank. They could not or would not do anything at all to help me with that problem though they were the cause of it so I called my bank and had my daily debit card limit raised so another 500 deposit would clear which cause 500 to be frozen for 2 days which is money due to my contractor.
Suggested solution:
The first resolution offered me was a 50.00 discount when I return the equipment and I said absolutely not because your mistake has already costed me around 500.00 plus the 500 you froze in my bank account plus the diesel and oil that spewed all over my land and I demanded a manager who offered my 50.00 more which would be a total of 100.00 refund when I return the equipment and I told him that is not good because this has already costed me at least 500. However they wouldn;t allow my contractor to have the new equipment until the paperwork was complete and the more time wasted the more money lost so I paid the new 500 deposit and completed the paperwork and am trying to go above the local managers head to get fair compensation for the mistake their employee made who said the excavator was repaired and working. I feel like fair compensation would be a 500.00 refund upon return of the equipment along with the return of the 500.00 deposit
