Tesco complaint: Rude, untrained security

My complaint:

This incident occurred on 14122021 at around 10pm.

Upon my arrival at the store I was shopping as normal, standing in an isle I overhear a conversation between this Security guard (who seems like an middle eastern fellow, slightly elderly) and a female member of staff. This conversation was clear and audible through the whole store, during which he asked the female member of staff how the self checkout works as he did not understand and I quote his words ‘I keep embarrassing myself asking customers if they’ve purchased a bag’. His female co-worker explained how this works but he seemed totally clueless, stating its no longer his problem and he’s not going to bother.

I then proceeded to self checkout, scanning all my items and a bag. I then paid and began bagging, as I had the bag placed on the scanner area, a new checkout initiated and the bag scanned again. I did not think much of it, completed bagging and was turning to leave. Upon doing so he stopped me accusing me of stealing a bag, outloud to be audible in the store, this is terribly embarrassing. I advised him I had in fact paid, and told him I am more than happy to wait for him to check my past transaction. He then walked to the machine, turned to me and said he does not know how to do so and I can just go. No apology remorse or any guilt in throwing accusations towards innocent shoppers. To my frustration as I was leaving I advised he should not be so concerned to which he started hurling profanities.

Upon placing my shopping and coming back into the store to further explain and grab a name for the complaint, he refused to provide me with his name and the manager after spoken to treated it as a complete joke.

He also had not enforced something he should be doing, which is enforcing the government guidelines Mask policy. There was no such action in place.

In this case I will be ing the COVID Business Compliance unit and raising a complaint around this store and security.

I will also require an apt explanation of why you believe hiring total incompetent staff is acceptable who can openly throw accusations and slander in Public? I’ll be seeking legal counsel for slander and defamation, as its my local area and people are familiar with each other.

I hope you are able to take action in terms of this security and management at the Canons Park Tesco Express.

Suggested solution:

Promptly change or hire a new security service, train and re-train staff and security.
