My complaint:
These men are getting sick from heat exposure. This is ridiculous. This is the only prison in Mississippi that has windows that will not open. No air conditioning. No fans on canteen. All other prisons in Mississippi at least have fans they can purchase on canteen. I was told by the superintendent that they brought floor fans in to help but they have nowhere to plug the fans in!!! And they bring 1 fan…..1 fan for 65 plus men. Yes they have ceiling fans but this isn’t working when it’s 105 outside. This is insane. These men need air. We treat animals better than we are treating these men. My advocate group has called, emailed etc and all we keep getting are LIES.
Suggested solution:
Get these men floor fans and plug ins to power them. Get fans on their canteen like every other prison in Mississippi. And for the love of all things holy get them air by next summer. I’ve been told there is a bid out but it will take a year and a half to complete. I’m not sure how accurate this is considering everything else we’ve been told is a lie.
