My complaint:

Shopped at the Maryport store on Thursday May 26th st 5pm. The young woman working on the checkout was having problems with the scanner. It was her first time on the checkout. She called for another staff member to help her. A young man arrived ,presumably a manager. He took out a clothhandkerchief from his trouser pocket, moistened it by spitting on it and proceeded to wipe down the scanner! The customer in front of me couldn’t believe her eyes and neither could I. This demonstrates a total disregard for basic hygiene standards. Bad enough in normal times but considering Covid is still an issue this was totally unacceptable behaviour.

Suggested solution:

The manager should be sent on a course on basic hygiene procedures.
