My complaint:

I was at the register paying for a Red Bull. I bought a 20 oz with my last few dollars on food stamps. The cashier had an obvious attitude as I approached the register to begin with. I’m gay, covered in tattoos. I tend to get a few looks and dirty glances and it doesn’t bother me much. Maybe she’s homophobic, or looks at me like a criminal because of my tattoos.. I don’t know. But when I used my food stamp card she twisted her face up in disgust. Still, didn’t bother me. But the second I grabbed my drink and started to walk away from the register, the cashier began talking badly about me to the customer behind me. Talking about the “trash” that are on food stamps and food stamps are supposed to be for food only. I bought a drink because I’ve been up all night taking care of a hurt cat. (I foster and care for animals) I didn’t get much sleep, but regardless.. the fact that she had an attitude was rude but to make derogatory comments about me and how I pay for something.. is unbelievable. Especially to another customer. Shaming someone for being on food stamps is unbelievable . She doesn’t know my situation or anything and felt compelled to judge me for my method of payment. I could hear her talking about me the entire walk out. I could have turned around and said something but I was embarrassed and upset. Especially that she was saying these things to a customer behind me, with other people behind that customer. It was loud enough for me to hear and I wasn’t as close as the other customers in line. I have never had any issues with food lion prior to today but absolutely disgusting attitude and behavior

Suggested solution:

I don’t know exactly but I feel like she should be reprimanded and maybe even fired for bullying someone for being on EBT. I doubt I’m the only customer on food stamps, especially considering the area. So who knows how many people she treats like this just because of their payment method. But more over, I feel like she was judgemental about my appearance from the start. I’m never rude, or hateful. I don’t treat anyone poorly. I’m always respectful . But I feel like she judged me from the start based on my sexuality and tattoos and then finally for being on EBT. I don’t have any expectations for this but I don’t feel it’s right for a cashier to carry on with a customer about another customer - BLATANTLY. Very unprofessional
