My complaint:

My husband was driving our 2013 Toyota Camry when suddenly he heard a grinding noise. He pulled off the highway to the nearest exit and parked at a gas station. We contacted CarShield and had it towed to Firestone. The following day I spoke with the mechanic and he said well, your caliper is covered from what CarShield is saying. However, they are stating because it is metal to metal on the brake pad and the rotor they will not cover the caliper.

The mechanic went on to explain that this was no fault of our own, as he checked all other brake pads and they are in great condition. Unfortunately, this occurred because the caliper seized. I told the mechanic that I had an oil change October 19,2021 and had ALL of my brakes checked and they were ALL in good condition (also, since my oil change I have only put 1,500 miles on the vehicle).

I was told to submit this supporting documentationoil change receipts to CarShield, so I did. Fast forward 72 hours later and now CarShield is saying that my claim has been denied due to the metal to metal Even Though I have documentation SHOWING this was a faulty part and not due to my own negligence! The mechanic at Firestone AND the Manager explained to them, this is not our fault. But, CarShield continued to say they wouldn’t cover the caliper! Oh, also to add – the mechanic explained, that if you look at the rotor you can tell the caliper seized because of the marks on the rotor! If it was from wear and tear on the brake pad as CarShield is stating, then the rotor would have many more groves and divots in it because of a bad pad. BUT, that is not the case here!

I asked for the claim number and was told Oh we don’t have one. I asked how they could deny a claim that is non-existent?! They then said well, it was in the pre-claim process. BUT there should still be some sort of case number andor claim number, right?? Apparently NOT! I begged them to please have their adjuster come look at the car because this is NOT our fault. Again, they refused.

I have had CarShield for 12 months and have Never had to use them. This has been a horrifying experience and NOW RIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, with TWO children to take care of, we are having to spend $850 to get everything repaired!!!! Needless to say, I will be contacting the BBB my local news station to warn consumer’s of this SCAM!!!! They will lie (as they did here) and MAKE THINGS UP JUST TO AVOID PAYING FOR YOUR COVERAGE!!!

Suggested solution:

If they paid for the caliper repair, since it is covered under my Platinum Plan then that would resolve this issue!!
