British Airways complaint: Delayed Baggage with no support

My complaint:

We flew with British Airways from JHB to Chicago on 20 September, with a connecting flight in London.
Upon arrival in Chicago we were informed that our luggage did not arrive with us. We immediately reported the lost baggage but that is where it ended. We received an email with no report number attached, we did not receive any further communication nor any compensation for us to buy the essentials required for our stay.
We tried contacting British Airways directly with no luck as the numbers provided did not work. We then asked relatives to address the issue directly with the JHB Airline where they ed that they did not know where our luggage was. Still no compensation was offered to assist us in getting the essentials required.
After reaching out to numerous external sources our luggage was found and collected on Monday, 25 September, by relatives in JHB. Upon arrival back in SA on 28 September we were informed that we would need to submit an online claim for compensation which we did. It is now 02 October and still no word from British Airways with regards to assisting us in this manner at all!

Suggested solution:

Compensation for the money spent or at least some communication about even trying to assist in this matter!
