My complaint:

I booked 4 nights at the Apartamentos Marques De La Merced in Malaga.
I arrived on Monday 31st May at 1pm (thank you for early entry). My apartment was ready. As soon as I walked in I was hit by an overpowering smell of insecticideair freshener. I mentioned this to Tarek. He said he could removed the electric plug in. I opened all the windows (onto the busy street outside) but couldn’t stay in the apartment as it was affecting my nose and throat. I went out to explore Malaga and got back after 7pm but the profound stuffiness and heavy smell was as bad as ever. The reception was closed so I emailed the details given to me on my arrival – Reception and another one via Booking.com. (I also phoned but got no answer). I asked that I either be allocated another room (without the insecticdefresher or if that was not possible I would check out. I got no response all evening. I had to move my duvet near the window to breath, and try to sleep on the floor by the open window. However, a motorbike stopped just outside and ran his engine for ages – the fumes are not good either. The street is very busy as my window opened right onto it. I had to close the window and was then almost suffocating with the fumes inside. I did not get a reply to my emails, I did. not sleep as motorbikes, vehicles and revellers continued throughout the night. In addition there were cockroaches in the bathroom (hence the insecticide!). This is very bad for the health of guests. I ended up with swollen glands, throat and sinuses.
I had to wait until the reception opened at 12.30pm on Tuesday 1st June. The receptionist had not read my email!! I had to explain what happened, He said he couldn’t contact his boss because he (the boss) was on a course. He admitted to me that he had complaints previously about the strong insecticideair fresheshner. He said he could only offer me another apartment for two days and then I would have to move again for the final night. I did this. This whole situation caused me great inconvenience as I had booked a Spanish course for Tuesday 1st June. I had to cancel this as I did not get a reply to my email and I needed to hang around until 12.30 when the receptionist arrived. Then, today (Thursday), I’ve had to hang around again to change rooms at 12.30pm

Suggested solution:

It is only reasonable that I should be given a refund for the first night and adequate compensation for the detrimental effects on my. health. and all the hassle of moving rooms etc.
