Apple complaint: Ipad stopped working

My complaint:

I purchased my ipad brand new on November 9th, 2019 at a cost of £409. It performed perfectly until about 2 weeks ago when it went dead. No physical or liquid damage. It simply stopped working. Since then all efforts to fix it have been to no avail. I’ve been on to apple support a couple times who finally suggested sending the device in for repair at an initial cost of €276.73. This was without the device being diagnosed and it was suggested that the repair costs could wind up being more. This ipad is only just 14 months old and has been looked after very well. I think it is totally unfair for apple to charge such a ridiculous amount of money before they even look at the device to see what’s wrong with it, and then potentially charge more to repair it.

Suggested solution:

As it is only just out of warranty, I believe apple should do the right thing, stand over its product and fix it or replace it free of charge. I would be willing to cover postage costs.
