My complaint:

I was injured at work on May 13th 2021. I shot a three and a half inch nail into my hand and had to go to the hospital to have it removed. I had the following day off and my employer paid me for that one day. I went back to work on Monday the 17th, and attempted to do my duties, but with the injury I was unable to do my full duty. I did some later work that day…

I had to take the following 3 days off, so the 18th 19th and 20th. On the 21st I went back to work, with my injured hand, and because of that injured hand I was compensating by using the right side of my body more than I needed to. I ended up sustaining another injury which resulted in strained ribs. The ribbing jury was almost more painful than the nail in the hand. Had a hard time breathing, bending over, or completing any task that involved movement.

I attempted to see the doctor, however my doctor was in the process of moving to a new office and wasn’t available immediately. I finally got in contact with my doctor on the 25th of May, and he gave me the entire week off of work.

I submitted a claim to WCB, and it was days before the agent even got back to me. When we finally did talk, she was very unprofessional, snarky, and giving me very short and cold responses, making me feel like I’m doing something wrong. I wasn’t! I was injured and couldn’t work.

We filed the claim, and because they didn’t go to the doctor immediately after the 17th, in regard to my hand, they would not pay me for those three days off. Fine, I suck that one up.

Then when I finally seen the doctor on the 25th and he gave me that week off, the WCB agent said that they can’t pay me for the 23rd and 24th because I wasn’t able to provide medical proof. I physically was not able to go see the doctor, but my attempts were there. This is where it got so frustrating…

After that week the WCB agent approved my claim for the rib injury, gave me a letter saying they will pay me out $1,121, and I’ve been sitting and waiting for this money ever since. Today is June 13th.

I finally got fed up and decided to call WCB back, and spoke with an agent. It turns out that my employer had contacted the WCB about some modified duties, that I couldn’t even do because I couldn’t move!

With the correspondence being relayed to the WCB, they didn’t send out the payment. It has been over a week and that agent that has my case, didn’t contact me, didn’t tell me anything, I’m just sitting here waiting like an idiot for money that’s not even on the way yet… Very very unprofessional and I feel neglected. This is a very poor way for government agents to act. She should have called me and told me what was going on with the claim.

Me and this agent did not get along right from the start because of her demeanor. She constantly sounds annoyed, treats me like I’m a burden, and I’m ready to take this to court… This is very unfair and I am the one that was injured and had to deal with all the pain physically, and now I have to deal with all this emotional pain and anxiety. I am so not happy with the WCB…

Suggested solution:

Well, it's too late for her to go back and call me a week ago to tell me that she can't issue the payment yet. Which is really unfair because she already approved me for the payment. I did nothing wrong.

The correct course of action would be to pay me for that entire week, because I did attempt to contact my doctor and it was out of my control.

The payment should be issued immediately. However, now that I spoke with a regular contact center agent, she left an order something for the agent to get in contact with me by the end of the day tomorrow. Great, not! I am so disappointed with the service from WCB that I'm utterly speechless...
