My complaint:

Between February 12th and 14th, 2024 me and my friend were guests in Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel Freetown, Sierra Leone.

On February 13th we left our room at 2pm to Tokah Beach, arrived back at 8pm using the hotel’s shuttle service, so it was known we were out. Entering the room we noticed the room service was in our room, the bed was made, and the room was cleaned. My camera bag was open, which was closed when we left, it contained my camera equipment and two money envelopes, one for Euro and the other one for USD. Counting the money, all the Euros were there, but not so the Dollars, originally we had 6800 USD, and 1000 USD was missing, we found only 5800 USD in the envelope.

After this notice I went immediately to the reception complaining. At the desk I asked to call the police, and do something, we did not touch anything to give the opportunity to take fingerprints, and asked to check the cameras, and the electric cardkey system in the period we were out to see who entered our room. At the reception the lady took only a short hand write records, no official, did not give any copy, I talked to a man who looked like a manager, I was told they would investigate, but they did not call the police as we asked. I gave them time, about 2 hours later,

I asked him about any results, and a security man came to our room, they said an accident like that never happened before, and they checked the corridor cameras, and the electric key system, but only me were the one who showed up entering the room nobody else. But it was nonsense, the room was cleaned, and the bed was made, it sure the room service was in our room. They did not listen to us, just said it could be anybody who took it or maybe we just lost the money somewhere else. They did no investigations, did not call police, the manager gave us his number and promised he would send a WhatsApp voice message about the case. Next morning I asked him, but he just did not want to talk to me and he just kept repeating he may have sent a voice message, but never did.

We recognised no one will do anything, the thief can be an insider, and all the management covers for him or her. We had no time to do anything or call the police, because our airport transfer was just waiting for us, we left for home.

Maybe it is our fault not to take the money in the safe, but it was in a bag, only those one could take who opened and searched for it. We stayed at a 5 star well named hotel, would never think someone could get in the room, or hotel members would take our belongings. It is very sad that this could happen in a 5 star hotel, the hotel members did not investigate, they know well we will leave and no one will ask anymore about the stolen money.

We were participants of the Budapest Bamako Rally, later on the rally’s facebook group we found two  posts, about stolen money while staying in the Radisson Blu Hotel, similar stories like ours, not all the money, just some were taken from wallet and in the other case from the safe.

I would like to ask you to follow our case, find out what happened, and if possible give us some compensation.
