My complaint:

I have had a many years subscription to Netflix’s CD service. My “Saved Disc” file has well over 50 CD’s in it, some of which have been there for many, many months. Netflix provides a notation about “Availability”. That notation is “Unknown”. In effect, it turns out that this notation means that the CD will never be received.

All the CD’s in the “Saved” file have been shown in Netflix’s online catalog of films. If the CD’s in the file will likely never be available, one wonders why they are listed in the first place? Surely, Netflix knows from the start about the unavailability.

I would much rather be told up-front that a film is not available, and never will be, rather than to request it, and then, after months of waiting, realize that it will never be received..

Better than a year ago, a formal business letter about the problem was mailed to Netflix corporate headquarters. I never had the courtesy of a reply. If this is appropriate customer service, Netflix needs to have some kind of attitude adjustment.

Suggested solution:

It’s simple: just do not advertise a film if it will never be available.
