My complaint:

I’m a new seller. I had open an account with Mercari. I was told had to set with a prepaid of $150 which I did do. Received an email stating that while reviewing my account I had to put in $400 for the shipping label before I can receive the total amount of $1,100 back to my account immediately.

I to get two gift cards to send to them. I struggle to get that payment. Finally, I did. Then comes another email. I told them I didn’t have the money and to cancel the transaction and credit my account and the buyer’s account. I was told that it cannot be done. I must complete the transaction.

I got another card for the $400. They said they received it and I was waiting for the shipping label that they promised. No response. Until another email came on August 17, 2021, of an official statement that my Mercari account limit needs to be extended to receive full funds on hold.’ The extension category indicates that I have to put $1,000 on two Vanilla Gift Cards – $500 each. I didn’t have the money. at the time. The buyer was harassing me as well as being nasty to me via text messages and calling me demanding that I pay up.

I told Mercari that I needed time to come up with that money. On Friday morning was able to get $1000 (payday) which I had to sacrifice my bills for this transaction and got the cards. I sent the photo of the receipts and the front and back of the cards to Mercari at 9:26 am sent them the cards as requested.

Received an email on August 20, 2021, stating one of the gift cards is not working. I contacted the dealing with the gift card, they told me that the card was used to purchase $476.00 from CoachOutlet.com at 11:06 am and $22.00 from Bloomingdale. I never used the card and Mercari had the cards. So between the three-hour time frame, someone used the card to make the purchases. When I mentioned that to Mercari, they acted like it was no big deal. It would have to be someone from their end who took the money. Last night I was told, I needed another $500 to give me back all my money. No joke. I had to borrow money again. Got the card. Sent the photo of the card front and back plus the receipt. The agreement was to have the money yesterday to refund me and get the shipping label. Nothing happened last night.

Then this morning, I got an email asking for another $2,500 and they will give me the money back right away. That is a total of $4,000. All of this for me trying to sell a printer worth only $400. Really?!

I will be filing multiple complaints against Mercari until I get my money back.

Suggested solution:

I want back all of my money and the account closed. I want the buyer to get back his money.
