My complaint:

I have lived in a flat on Sauchiehall street for 8 years, most of that was great – KFC bought the empty space underneath us, and since then it’s been hell – it started with all their construction work which went on for months, construction going on all day drilling in to the roof , there was workers outside on my roof heckling me at my window when I woke up in my bed , cat calling me ,
in the morning, and people outside my window with head torches at night ,working outwith legal hours. The floor was vibrating with hammering and drills all day for two months – they compensated me with £350 at this point, after several complaints and video evidence of the noise.

Then during Covid all their freezers broke down, full of meat, which rotted and my flat was full of the stench of rotting meat , this was so bad that me and my three flat mates became unwell, all of us vomited several times throughout this ordeal and were forced to sleep with things wrapped round our faces , with nowhere to go due to COVID. environmental health was unable to attend due to COVID but eventually got hold of the manager for us and the freezers were then dragged out and their entire interior needed pressure washing , our flat and everything in it was full of the stench for weeks afterwards and everything needed cleaned, some things needed thrown out , we got nothing other than an apology. Then was ignored following that, I still have these emails.

I have made several complaints to the police and to environmental health in regard to the noise , as they have speakers fitted in the roof and every night when they close they turn the music up full waking us up out of our sleep, I work as a nurse and this has affected my job having constantly broken sleeps, sometimes they turned the music up full and would close the shop leaving me not police any option to get them to shut it off- just all of us unable to sleep for the full night – they have been told by environmental health twice to keep the music off or right down and by police but it continues to happen , I have several videos of how loud it is , it’s like living above a club .

Now they have had broken extractor fans for a week and our flat has been full of grey clouds of fat fryer vapour that is making us cough from the spice they use in some of the batter – we have been told they are allowed to operate as long as their doors are open back and front by the owners, once again everything in our home smells of fried chicken and we are looking for a new home due to this one being uninhabitable . We pay rent every month to live here and we deserve compensation for everything we have had to endure as tenants – and now having to leave our home because it’s got too much .

Suggested solution:

They should pay our full rent for the month we spent gagging and vomiting during a pandemic from rotting meat, as well as the money we spent trying to decontaminate our belongings. They should also pay a contribution to our rent for the week we have spent living in the fumes from their fryer and for every day the issue is not resolved - and we should be compensated for all the money I will have to spend to wash all our clothes and clean our curtains rugs and upholstery of the same stench . We should also receive some form of compensation for the consistently unresolved noise complaints as well as the fact that we are now being forced to leave our home due to the continued issues .
