My complaint:

I am reaching out to report an unsettling experience I’ve had with eBay, which has left me in a precarious financial situation and without satisfactory resolution despite multiple attempts on my part.

Background:
My name is Adedoyin Adefarakan, a PhD student at King’s College, London. To navigate financial challenges, I sold a cherished pair of shoes on eBay (Order ID: 09-10706-51438) on October 29th, 2023, for 551.19 USD. Following the sale, I ly shipped the item to the buyer, personally bearing a shipping fee of 8.95 GBP.

Issue:
Shortly after fulfilling my end of the transaction, eBay suspended my account without clear justification. In seeking clarity, I was informed by eBay’s customer service that my account has been blocked and my funds frozen, making them permanently inaccessible to me.

Attempts at Resolution:
I have made numerous attempts to resolve this matter directly with eBay:

I reached out to their customer service multiple times via phone and email.
I escalated the issue by sending a detailed letter to their CEO via LinkedIn, outlining my situation and seeking intervention.
I’ve even publicly addressed the matter on Twitter, to which eBay responded but failed to follow through with concrete assistance.
Impact:
The withheld funds represent more than just a monetary value to me; they were meant to be a lifeline during challenging academic times. The lack of clarity and resolution from eBay has compounded my financial and emotional distress.

Request to BBB:
Given the significance of this issue and the unsatisfactory responses from eBay, I am seeking the BBB’s intervention to:

Ensure a thorough investigation into the matter.
Facilitate the release of my funds or the return of my item.
Ensure that other consumers are made aware of potential issues of this nature with eBay.
