My complaint:

I and my carer shopped at Aldi`s on Thursday the 13th two days ago and going through the checkout my carer was asked for her ID because there were two bottles of wine in our trolly. I asked the checkout girl why did she have to show her ID as we have shopped at Aldi for years and never had a problem with buying alcohol. I was with my carer as she was going through the checkout and could not understand why she was being asked for her ID. It was finally explained to me that they could not serve alcohol to anybody under 25. I said that my carer was 34 and the wine was not for her. After getting annoyed with what was happening I told my carer to show her ID even though the checkout girl was told that the wine was for me. My age is 80.

I then started to walk over to where we pack our shopping when I heard somebody yelling out Oy Oy Oy Oy not knowing that it was meant for me I turned around to see this person in a very agro state coming towards me pointing his finger at me. He commenced to yell out that he did not like the way I spoke to his staff ( his name was Tom the manager of the store.) and I replied that I was only asking the question of why my carer was refused to put my bottles of wine through the till, and I got annoyed when I was not unable to get an answer to my question. At no time did I swear only kept on asking for the reason. Anyway, after Tom yelled at me and told the cashier not to put the rest of our items through the checkout he put our trolley ( which would have had at least $200 worth of goods in it into the next aisle and told me to get out of the store. I tried to reason with him but he was out of control, so I told my carer not to worry about it as we would go elsewhere.
We have shopped at this store for over ten years and never had a problem with alcohol before because the checkout people always knew that everything in the trolley was mine and never queried my carer’s age.

I now understand the under 25 years rule for alcohol but the girl at the checkout should have known that it was for me, and she was told so.
I can’t shop there anymore because of a misunderstanding because I was told by the very nasty manager never to come back again, so Aldi has lost a good customer for just a misunderstanding.

Suggested solution:

Send the manager to a school, to teach him how to control his temper and how to get both sides of the story before making a big scene in front of everybody.
