My complaint:
As a woman of Italian-American descent, I was offended when Seth Meyers, on his October 19 show, referred to Rudy Guiliani as Trump’s Italian lawyer. This gratuitous reference to Guiliani’s ethnicity was just as inappropriate and offensive as it would have been to describe Michael Cohen as Trump’s Jewish lawyer. In both cases, referring to Trump’s attorneys in this way makes it sound as though being Italian or Jewish were part of each lawyer’s unsavory character. A person as politically astute and socially aware as Meyers should realize that such pejorative references to a person’s ethnicity should be beneath him.
Suggested solution:
Seth Meyers should publicly acknowledge that he was wrong and apologize for having offended Italian Americans.
