My complaint:
I’ve been with my husband in the hospital for weeks now. They found a THC vape pen [non-prescription/over the counter laying on the table…as the night before was horrendous after the surgeons cut off my husbands leg…didn’t remember to order any pain medication…and let him go on in agony for hours before contacting the nurse back. l was feeling very sick and needed the relief to go to sleep. A nurse brought it in…said they found it and that I had to leave the premises. I was unaware that vape devices were forbidden. It isn’t posted anywhere. I did as I was asked and left the premises. Shortly after, my husband calls me to tell me they are ransacking my things, looking for drugs or something. I had told the nurse I understand their rules, didn’t know…would leave and not do it again. I was entirely polite and compliant. There was NO NEED to violate my rights. I wouldn’t even have known if my husband hadn’t told me!
Suggested solution:
Treat people like humans, not animals in a cage. Try a little understanding and empathy instead of rules and control. Protocols lack what healing needs most to take place...human compassion. I have observed the people involved in the unnecessary search to be pretty heartless and inhumane in lots of other instances. This does not feel like a place of healing at all.
