My complaint:
March and April 2025
I went to access my drop box account. This was originally under the emails freemansbay@xtra.co.nz. This email was used as our business and personal email when I was together with my ex.
When separated he kept the address.
I went to access it in March, I knew the password so put it in. It then asked me for the 2 factor security code which was sent to my email.
I’m in a major custody and settlement dispute with my ex, he is violent and I’m currently in the middle of a protection order with the courts.
When I realised drop box had emailed freemansbay@xtra.co.nz I knew he’d see the email and changed my password, so I can’t have access to my information. I emailed drop box with urgency, advising I needed the 2 factor security settings removed as I hadn’t asked for that. However, they took three days to get back to me. Of course he changed my password.
I passed all there security questions twice. I have photos of my files and could tell them exactly when I started it and the last files accessed etc. I gave them a police report on my ex.
I explained if you share a garage with your partner or ex and they have a spare key to your car, they dont then get to keep it, just because they have the key and decide to get the locks changed. The ownership papers are yours and it gives you have the right to get your car back, or at least change the locks so they cant access it until the law says.
They say because I dong know the password and no access to my email…. too bad really. The frustrating thing is I DID have my password, but because they had put a 2 factor security action on my account, which I never asked for… and they took three days to reply… he changed it. There id no way I can access freemansbay@xtra.co.nz.
I asked bare minimum to freeze my account and I’ll have the courts demand it back.
I asked if they could reset it so ag least he also has to ask the same security questions as me… because he can’t. The account is in my name…
Yet they are allowing him full access to all my information. I cant see the issue with at least asking him to answer the security questions. That’s how you would check and prevent if someone is breeching my information.
I don’t understand how just the email address gives him full access. And I knew my password, its their tardiness that gave him time to change it.
To change the password he shouldn’t be able to do it just because he has the email. It should be texted to the number on the account. Or emailed to a back up email.
This shows absolutely no security cover for information. It makes no sense.
Can you help me please
I’ve attached a photo if all my files in the drop box. I can attach email corrospondance if you like. My ex is a very dangerous man and my files have all my childrens pictures and identification information.
Suggested solution:
I would like at least for my account to be frozen until I have the court order.
They should ask him for the same security questions.
What I would like is the chance to chsnge my email over and reset my password.
But most i need him to not be able to access it.
They can see I knew my password, I've passed all security questions. I have proof on my laptop its my account. After asking security questions I should be able to have my information back. Ay least let me down load it off their sites. My passport is in there, they can look it up. I can tell them what each file has in it!!!! It's my information.
But he needs to prove he is legally allowed access. Ask him the same security questions.
