My complaint:
on 07272022 I ran into your store quickly to purchase 20 clip boards for and event. I asked the cashier if returns were allowed before I purchase these items as I was not sure we would need them. She turned to manager to ask the question, manager (white female) states yes as long as you have your receipt. The cashier the manage was talking with at middle register began to ask question about return policy as she appeared to be in trainingnew hire. The manager told her the only items they were not able to accept back was opened food and Pepsi products. The cashier says really Pepsi, manager begins to explain it was because they (Dollar Tree) do not own Pepsi products. My cashier completed my sell asked if I wanted the receipt or in the bag, I stated in the bag in case I need to return them I knew where the receipt was, and I left the store as a satisfied customer at this point.
On Tuesday 080922 I remembered I had not returned the clip boards to the store for a refund as they were not needed after all. I returned to the same store, waited in line, the manager (same manager that was there on day I purchased clip boards) was called to the register for another customer I was behind she asked me if that was a return I stated yes, she told me I had to go to the manager’s office door, So I proceed there as I began to past last register she states he (male cashier) can help you here. He asked if I was exchanging, I stated no I would like a refund she immediately interceded his reply and states she does not give refunds. I state thats not what you told me when I purchased these. She stated she never told me that, I replied yes you did and told her the entire comment she had with another cashier that day about not accepting opened food and pepsi products back.
She states yes she said that but never said I could bring those back, she would never have said anything like that. I asked how is I can recall your entire comments, yet I get this one incorrect. She continued to debate that she would have never said that and that the receipt even states that. I told her I never read the receipt as I just had her drop it in the bag. She states again well I know I didn’t say that as I would have never told you that, oh but you did. So, she states I can either exchange it of I can leave her store. I told her I didn’t feel like shopping today and she states I could leave her store. I asked why because you’re lying and too ashamed to admit it. If you had even stated, I apologize if I said that as store policy is… but know you continue to hold steadfast to your lie. She told me to get out of her store I left she followed me to door. I stopped at the curb as traffic was coming and I couldn’t cross another lady asked me what was wrong, and I began to share with her. The store manager comes out and tells me to get off of her property. I correct her this is not your property, she states its Dollar Tree property, I state not at this point it is city property, she states I had to stop harassing her customer, I states I can talk to whoever I want, and I was harassing anyone. she states she is going to call the police; I say go ahead as I have not violated any laws, she states I will be arrested for trespass. I say call the police I am not worried you’re wrongfully accusing me as you wrongfully told me I could return these Items. She called the police, I could hear her telling dispatcher untruths, i am harassing customers and I am trespassing on Dollar Tree property.
I said tell the truth as we know you don’t do sometimes. I took a seat on a black wrought iron bench that sets on the sidewalk and waited for the police to arrive, she continues to make comments to me about how I will be arrested for trespassing, I told her she is violating company policy for following me outside the store, I had left, and you came out to continue arguing with me. I set and waited.3 police cars arrive the officers 2 speedway police and 1 Indpls police ask what’s the problem I explain all that I just wrote to you here. She states that I am trespassing the officer states I am not, and this is now a civil matter I could file in court or possibly file a complaint with Dollar Tree. He tells your employeestore manager who I will refer to as Karen No crime has been committed, She states she is saying she has a badge I told the officer yes, I do here it is I am a police chaplain, I showed it to them and they said yes, she does have one and I have not violated any laws. She turned and went back into store they left, and I sat on the bench for a few more moments in disbelief of what just happened.
Suggested solution:
1.Reprimand your employee, have her review policy on returns using the correct verbiage returns to one mean any form cash and or exchange, customer choice. If Exchange only it should be stated as such where she failed. WE all make mistakes but to be adamant that you did not say a thing is just ludicrous. 2 Provide me a refund now even if it isn\\\'t your policy, and gift card for my embarrassment of having police called on me. I am a chaplain; I have a badge. All of this was totally uncaused for and disrespectful to me. Chaplain Lora Henderson
