About Capitec

Capitec is a South African retail bank offering transaction accounts, savings, credit and insurance through its app, its cards and a branch network. People banking with a high street bank of this kind run into recurring problems: app or online banking that is down when you need it, payments and transfers that do not show up on time, disputed or unrecognized debit orders that are hard to reverse, fees that are not obvious until they appear on a statement, and long waits to get through to support.

Check statements and app alerts regularly so an unfamiliar debit order or fee is spotted early, and report anything you do not recognize straight away: disputes are easier to unwind when raised within days. Log calls with dates and reference numbers, put the complaint in writing if it is not resolved, and ask about the bank’s escalation route and the banking ombudsman.

Debit order on your account you never recognised? Put it in through us. We help you set out the dates and amounts clearly, drawing on what has worked in earlier bank cases.

Common customer service questions about Capitec

How do I file a complaint about Capitec?

Do you have a dispute or a bad customer experience with Capitec? Report it through our website to maximize the chance of getting it resolved.

We help you write an effective complaint in minutes. Our AI models are trained on thousands of effective complaint letters. Then we push it through emails, social media, paper complaint letters and other tools at our disposal. And you are not alone: our helpful community is there for advice.

How do I contact Capitec customer service?

Use the contact details inside the Capitec banking app, the ones printed on the back of your card, or a branch, rather than a number picked up from a search engine: fake bank support numbers are one of the most common ways South African bank clients are defrauded. Have your account number, the dates and amounts of the entries in question and any earlier reference number ready. Ask for a reference for every call and write down the name of the consultant you spoke to. Follow anything agreed on the phone with a written message through the app the same day, because the written trail is what a later complaint rests on.

Payment gone from the account and not arrived at the other end? Report it on our website and we take the complaint to Capitec by email, on social media and in printed letters.

How do I reverse a debit order on my Capitec account?

A disputed debit order on a Capitec account is reversed through the bank, and speed decides it: the window for disputing an unauthorised debit order is short, and a reversal becomes far harder once it has passed. Open the transaction in the app or ask at a branch, state that you did not authorise the debit order, and give the exact date, the amount and the reference shown on the statement. Reversing the money does not cancel the underlying agreement: if the company keeps presenting the debit order, ask the bank to block that user reference and take the dispute up with the company as well. Keep the reversal reference and check the next statement to see whether it has come off again.

How do I report fraud or an unauthorised transaction on a Capitec account?

Report suspected fraud on a Capitec account immediately through the app or the official contact route and ask for the card or the banking profile to be blocked while it is investigated, because delay weakens the claim. Give the exact transactions with dates, amounts and merchant names, and state clearly that you did not authorise them and did not share your PIN, card details or one time password with anyone. Ask for a case number, and if the claim is refused ask in writing what evidence the bank is relying on. A police case number is often required, so open one and keep it. Once the bank has issued its final response, the national ombud scheme for banking in South Africa can review the case.

Claim refused because the bank says you approved it? Take it through our complaint process: we open a case and keep coaching you on what to reply and how to escalate.

Why is a payment into my Capitec account not reflecting?

A payment into a Capitec account that is not reflecting is usually one of three things: a transfer from another bank still inside its clearing time, an immediate payment that failed and will reverse, or money sent to the wrong account number. Ask the sender for proof of payment showing the date, the amount, the account number used and the reference, then take that to Capitec together with your own account number. If the money went to the wrong account, say so the same day, because recalling a payment depends on the other account holder and gets harder with every day that passes. Keep screenshots of your balance and of any pending entries, and ask for the reference of the trace.

Proof of payment sent and the money still missing? Set it out here and your case becomes the dated record the next client chasing a payment into the same account can point to.

What do people complain about most at Capitec?

Nothing has been reported about Capitec here yet. Our research shows what typically goes wrong at high street banks of this kind: app and online banking that is down at the moment people need it, payments and transfers that do not show up on time, unrecognised debit orders that are hard to reverse, fees that only become visible once they appear on a statement, and long waits to get through to a consultant.

Sound familiar? Be the first to report it and open the record for other consumers.

What happens after I submit my complaint?

Your complaint gets its own public page on Complain.biz and we get to work: we bring it to the attention of Capitec through emails, social media, paper complaint letters and other tools at our disposal.

And we stay with it after you file. Our trained AI opens a case file for you and keeps coaching: what to reply, when to push again, and how to escalate if nothing happens.

Can other consumers help me with my Capitec complaint?

Yes. We have an active community of consumers, and complaints here are public: people who ran into the same problem with Capitec can give you advice or back you up with their own story. A complaint with a community behind it is much harder to overlook.
