WHSmith complaint: £5 voucher not activated

My complaint:

Assistant took the voucher against the purchase – a book -, noted it on the receipt, but did not deduct the £5 from the Total. This was at 1006 on Monday 17th October.. I telephoned from home to report the matter but was told that Company Policy was for me to return to the shop with my card to access the £5. This would have cost me more than the sum involved, a round trip of 22 miles.. At 92 years of age, this was hardly possible. anyway.

Suggested solution:

By sending me the £5 due.
