My complaint:
I am trying to open a business account and there are two things I am extremely upset about.
The account is for a property business, and while applying for the Starling account, it asks for the mortgage offer, without a word of explanation as to why this is demanded at this stage.
First: Why on Earth would opening a bank account for my business be dependent upon a mortgage offer? The business is set up, incorporated, and is therefore operational and needs a bank account.
Second, why don’t you give a proper reason for demanding this information?
Third, my new business bank account is required for the mortgage application form. So waiting for you to open the bank account (which as you publicise takes 10 minutes apparently) is holding up my mortgage application
Fourthly, I submitted the above information to you over 3 days ago and I am still getting the message ‘Our UK based team are reviewing your information’.
My first impression is Starling bank is rubbish.
I am also in the dark as to whether I should go elsewhere, will I be messed around like this again, and how much more of my (extremely precious) time will you business banks, promising the Earth and delivering nothing, waste in messing me around ?
Suggested solution:
1. Explain why in earth would they try and make a business bank account, which every business needs, dependent on a mortgage offer. I need a business account because I have a business, what has it got to do with a mortgage???
2. Explain why they did not put the reason for this demand at the time they asked for it. This is frankly insulting. You need to treat people like human beings not items on a conveyor belt.
3. Apologise for wasting 4 days - FOUR DAYS - of my time
3. Give me the option to continue with the account opening or stop there, and if I decide not to go ahead, to promise to delete all records of me they may be holding.
