Jimmy Fallon has had nearly seven years to establish himself as worthy of the of the title of Tonight Show host. Thus far he has, at least in my eyes, been unable to do so. When you compare his tenure to that of Johnny Carson or Jack Parr you will find that he hasn’t exactly established a unique or interesting style like those men did. Even compared to the tenure of Jay Leno ,whom I am not the biggest fan of, he fails to establish any sort of respect that previous hosts have. I believe NBC keeps Jimmy Fallon on the air due in part to his ability to make the company money and appeal to the greater masses. Keeping Jimmy Fallon on television after having unrightfully taken the show away from Conan and giving it back to Jay Leno who then turned around and proved unprofitable was a prime example of shady business practices and has lost the show a longtime viewer and fan of late night television.
I believe that NBC needs to reevaluate its priorities when it comes to The Tonight Show. The show used to carry such a heavy and respectable name in show business’s that it quite honestly makes me sad to see it as the laughing stock it has become. NBC shouldn’t pick up Jimmy’s contract when it comes up next. The show must move on from its unfunny and non creative yes man of a host to a more respected candidate that will carry the show in a better direction than it is currently going.
