My complaint:
Several complaints have been submitted to 311 via website and twitter regarding the recurring encampment that is consistently set up by the same person located on the sidewalk in front of an abandoned construction lot at 3800 West 6th Street,Los Angeles,CA. Cross-streets are 6th Hobart | 607 S Hobart Blvd in between 3800 Wilshire and 611 S Hobart.
I manage the community, Avana on Wilshire, and while yes, the encampment is unsightly but more importantly it’s concerning and the person is disruptive. He hammers between 12am-2am, he has thrown rocks at my residents windows and is stealing electricity by tapping into it underground through the sidewalk.
Temporarily dismantling has taken place prior but most recently a team of people and only take down half of the home. The city needs to be more proactive in keeping our city streets and clean while offering a healthy resolution to those sleeping on the streets. Continuous relocating the people is not a resolution as it’s just moving but not resolving the problem.
Several of my residents have also submitted a ticket to assist with this issue has they are concerned for the homeless people living there, concerned of their safety walking pass him and his visitors. In addition he has thrown trash over into the open lot but owned construction lot where the project has not began yet and open for at least 3 years. This is unsightly, disturbing and sad.
Please clean up the encampment with a resolution by the end of July. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you and a resolution.
Suggested solution:
A follow-up call, clean up all the encampments report and additions at this location along with providing them with help and resources and not just relocating the people to another location.
