My complaint:
HGTV has stooped too low; after years of family-friendly programming, I’m finding more more offensive themes. Last night an episode of House Hunters DARED compare 2 hunts for homes for a married couple taking the mother in to live with them to a “throuple” who were hunting for a house big enough to accommodate the 3 lovers (a bi-sexual woman, her husband and her wife!) This was totally offensive and upsetting to me that HGTV and House Hunters would stoop so low to feature this sexually deviant arrangement so arrogantly, AND, then pair the episode with a married couple who were house hunting for a place so they could take in one of the spouse’s mother, presenting the “3-some” as though it was a perfectly normal arrangement!
HGTV aired as a decent, family-friendly channel that any age could watch and nothing explicit sexually or defiant but this episode was exactly that; as the husband stood there explaining that “when (he) married his wife he knew she was bisexual and how the wife took him and her girlfriend to get quietly married and the 3 of them were now searching for a home together and a master bedroom where all 3 of them could have a bed big enough for each other! It was sickening and incredibly shocking to think this didn’t bother HGTV producers to film this show, then actually AIR IT!!
How much smut do you think your viewers are going to take from you, HGTV? It’s shoving deviancy in our faces: we don’t want to know the intimate lives of the people shopping for homes – nor the sick relationships that some people engage in so we turn on your shows, trusting that we will watch a show we don’t have to be embarrassed or ashamed about! Don’t try to “normalize” what’s NOT normal nor acceptable HGTV! It’s NOT normal and it’s NOT entertainment!
Suggested solution:
Make apology on air for offensive programming, with NO warning ahead, and with sexually explicit commentary about why they are looking for a house together and a bedroom big enough. Do not cave in to pressure by groups advocating deviancy under any circumstances: keep in mind this is FAMILY entertainment! I’ve been watching HGTV for over 10 years and I’m ashamed they are giving place to this kind of blatant offensive lifestyle and making it look and seem OK as though it’s no different than another 3 people looking for a home -but they are 2 married with 1 mother in law moving in with them. Hardly a comparison! STOP offending your loyal supporters HGTV!!
