My complaint:

New reporting of tragedies needs to be more sensitive to ALL families suffering. NBC knows this. Why CBS does not, is both reckless and emotionally damaging. Recently, CBS covered a story about the HERO Project on Long Island. In the news story, my amazing son Ethan Falkowitz, the other child tragically killed in a drunk driving crash, was merely referred to as another “tennis star”. We, as Ethan’s parents, are trying to do everything in our power to keep Ethan’s name present and legacy alive. We have to for our two younger children too, who deeply miss and struggle with the loss of their role model. When you report about such sensitive matters, it is imperative to acknowledge by name and picture those that are not here to do so for themselves. You ease my son by merely referring to him in an ordinary way…it is imperative that you do better and be better in your news coverage. NBC knew to…

Suggested solution:

I would appreciate you including my son’s name and picture, not merely referring to him as a tennis player…this should be obvious. No adult should have to bear the torment we are tasked to. Insensitive reporting adds to our already fragile emotional states.
