My complaint:
My mother was in the late stages of demensia had been in this home for over a year. She was reduced to skin bone could not swallo anymore. She hadn’t eaten for over a eeek at this time. When their GP came early morning to see her he said she had a throat infection as well. He called us to come see her ASAP as she could go at anytime. He then told my father she may last for 4 days or so. He didn’t prescribe any medication she couldn’t even swallow Panadol in a mixture. He said she was non responsive which was not so when we arrived. She seemed to be in discomfort which the nurses also noticed. I asked them to ring doctor give her something for her discomfort. They said they could not get hold of him tried their best to try make her comfortable. When I left I rang them several times Day night about a doctor but he was not answering them. I spoke to the clinical nurse next morning who said she will see what’s happening about it. The nurse was going to call a locomotive doctor because my mother definately needed something to help her discomfort. Then he finally was reached prescribed morphine every 2 hours. She lasted another 4 days. I don’t know what would have happened if I wasn’t so persistent?
Suggested solution:
Doctor should be questioned as to why he just leaves a dying patient that could suffer for days without any medication.
Why is there only 1 GP to contact for an aged care facility.
