My complaint:
I would like to make a formal complaint in regards to the fact that you are now 5 years later taking back benefits you said I was entitled to. I’m a single working mum trying my best. A few months back I received a letter from you saying I’d be over paid in housing benefits and you was taking it back out my rent. This had happened as you said you was unaware of my income since 2013.. I fail to see how when I’ve sent you in pay slips and as you informed me you have regular contact with HMRC. Then about 2 months ago I received another letter saying I now had to pay back council tax benefit which has now gone to the enforcement agency. I never applied for council tax benefit I was informed when on a call to you one day that I was entitled to it as I was on a low income. Now over 5 years you are saying you over paid me in both areas and are taking it back. This is not my mistake and you are leaving me on a situation that I’m struggling to make ends meet and pay my bills. I feel I’d be better iff not working as the amount you are taking off me I’m left with nothing. I’ve also noticed that a couple months back there was a back pay in my wages as the national living wage had gone up so it was back dated and paid to me. Within a few weeks you wrote to me telling me my wales had gone up and you was now taking more money off me. In fact this was a one off payment and my wages have gone back down and you are still taking the same amount from me even tho you should know my income from HMRC, I have been in contact with the enforcement agency to try and solve this but I can not afford the money they are asking. I need some help with what more to do on this. I have found Tara who works in the enforcement agency very helpful she goes above what she needs to do to help.
